Overview of Course

Social change emerges from and in relationships. Through the lens of social change, students will examine global issues such as health, human rights, education, gender equity, climate change, poverty, and nonviolent social action. Personal and social transformation is embedded in culture and relationships. Around the world, people have organized and worked together to solve their own problems and change their communities. More than a study of methods and theories, this class proposes an embodied experience where students engage critically with social change paradigms, develop skills in cultural humility, and consider their role in global social change efforts. Through in-class activities, students will develop skills in observation, active listening, self-awareness, conducting interviews, and collaborative leadership. Students will also participate in community engaged learning with community partners in an action-oriented field experiences.
